The Philippines reported 8,147 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 1,588,965.

Today’s number brings the active cases to 60,887: 93.8% are mild, 1.3% are asymptomatic, 2.1% are severe, and 1.3% are in critical condition.

It also marks the second consecutive day where new cases reported exceeded the 8,000 mark. The Department of Health (DOH) also reported 1 Covid-19 laboratory failed to submit their daily reports on time. 

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 1,500,189 with 9,117 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, climbs to 27,889 with 167 new fatalities.

The DOH also confirmed that it removed six duplicate cases from the nationwide count.

“Moreover, 2 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 102 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said. Ronald Espartinez
