After earning four medals in the recently concluded World Wushu Championships (WWC) in Shanghai, China, the Philippine wushu sanda team is ready to compete in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games (SEAG).

While earning a bronze medal in the 48-kilogram division of the combat side (sanda) of Wushu, Divine Wally looks forward to improving her performance in the SEAG.

After arriving from China, she continues her training for the Games.  She will only have the opportunity to go home to her native Baguio after the December 1-3 competition of the SEA Games in Manila is over.

With WWC gold medalist Nguyen Thi Chinh of Viet Nam possibly competing in the SEAG, Wally pledged to deliver a better performance.

Also on training since its arrival from WWC is the taolu (form) team.

Both taolu and sanda teams have concluded a four-month training in Chengdu, China in anticipation of their SEAG participation.

To maximize their “home field advantage”, the Philippine Wushu teams are training for at least two weeks ahead of the event at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The SEAG has up for grabs 16 gold medals in sanda and taolu events. (Jojo Mangahis)
