The Philippines on Saturday reported 2,058 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, pushing the country’s total caseload to 498,691

This is the second day daily cases were over 2,000.

The Department of Health (DOH) said five laboratories failed to submit their daily results on time.

Cavite and Rizal reported the most cases with 96 new cases each, followed by Leyte with 92, Quezon City with 85, and Mountain Province with 84 additional infections.

Total active cases reached 28,674. Some 92.4 percent of patients are asymptomatic or exhibiting mild symptoms, while 4.6 percent are critically ill, according to the DOH.

Total coronavirus-related deaths rose to 9,884 after 8 additional deaths were reported.

The Health Department reported 406 recoveries bringing the country’s total to 460,133 or 92.3 percent of the total recorded cases.

The OCTA Research Group accounts the rise in cases to the recent activities during the holidays.  The group earlier said that the effects of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, which saw the gathering of thousands of devotees last week, and the new variant of COVID-19 on the number of infections in the country, have yet to be seen.
