The Philippines logged 3,462 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, raising the nationwide tally to 115,980, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed Wednesday.

The top five areas in the country with the most number of new cases were Metro Manila with 2,434; Laguna with 105; Rizal with 101; Cavite with 73; and Cebu with 62.

The Philippines has the second most number of new cases in Asia second only to India that reported 4,068 new cases.

Currently, there are 47,587 active Covid-19 cases in the country, the most number in Southeast Asia followed by Indonesia with 37,533 active cases.

Recovery rate continues to spike with 222 more patients winning the fight against the disease, increasing the tally to 66,270.

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 2,123 with nine new fatalities. RJ Espartinez
