The Philippines surpassed the 61,000 mark on coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 2,498 new infections, elevating the country’s tally to 61,266.
The new cases reported by the DOH are composed of 1,246 “fresh” or newly validated cases and 1,252 late cases.
The top five municipalities in the country with the highest number of new Covid-19 cases are Metro Manila with 1,886, Cebu with 198, Cavite with 57, Davao del Sur with 44, and Laguna with 44.
Currently, there are 38,183 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or under quarantine: 90.7 percent are mild, 8.5 percent are asymptomatic, 0.4 percent are severe, and 0.5 percent are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, recoveries increased to 21,440 after 467 more patients recovered from the infectious disease, while fatalities inches to 1,643 with 29 new deaths.
The figures came from the data reported by 71 out of the 84 operational laboratories across the country according to the DOH. (RJ Espartinez)
