The Philippines surpassed the 38,000 mark on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases after posting 999 new cases, elevating the country’s tally to 38,511, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday.
595 of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 175 came from Metro Manila, 134 came from Region VII, while the remaining 286 are spread out across the country.
404 of the new cases are “late”: 131 came from Metro Manila, 57 came from Region VII, while the 216 other cases came from various towns and municipalities nationwide.
The country’s death toll, on the other hand, inches to 1,270 with 4 new patients dying from the respiratory illness.
In a bit of good news, recoveries jumped to 10,438 with 205 more patients winning the battle against COVID-19.
Indonesia tops the Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 57,770. Singapore followed with 44,122 cases trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
