President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said his government would look into the Covid-19 vaccine that targeted subvariants of the disease including Omicron.

The president made the statement after receiving his Covid-19 vaccine booster shot during the PinasLakas Vaccination Campaign in SM City Manila.

“I was just told by [Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire] na mukha namang merong ilalabas na vaccine para dito sa mga bagong variant ng Omicron. Kaya’t pagaaralan natin (that there will be a new vaccine to fight the new variants of Omicron. That’s why we will study if it’s going to be helpful,” he said.

“Gagawin natin ang lahat para madala dito sa Pilipinas para mabigay natin sa lahat ng kailangang magkaroon ng booster shot,” he added.

Vergeire earlier said the Department of Health was ready to procure the vaccines that targeted Omicron should they become available.

The Philippines has administered 159 million Covid-19 vaccine doses to date.

Only less than half of the total, or 72.1 million Filipinos, have completed their vaccinations.

More than 17.1 million have received booster shots. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
