President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the country’s inter-agency Covid-19 task force to remove the travel restrictions on 10 countries starting Sept. 6, Malacañang announced on Saturday.

The travel restrictions have been put in place to curb the spread of the Delta Covid-19 variant in the Philippines.

The travel ban covers India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

It will end on Sept. 5.

“International travelers coming from the abovementioned countries shall, however, comply with the appropriate entry, testing and quarantine protocols, depending on the country’s approved ‘listing,'” Palace spokesman Harry Roque said.

According to health officials, the Delta variant has been recorded in all 17 regions in the Philippines.

The Delta variant has also been named as the dominant variant in the country. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
