The Philippines reported 10,775 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections Wednesday, pushing the nationwide tally to 2,871,745. 

The Department of Health (DOH) said that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional, however, nine laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Among the new infections, 10,688 (99%) happened within December 23 to January 5, 2022.

“The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (7,420 or 69%), Region 4-A (1,719 or 16%) and Region 3 (798 or 7%),” DOH said.

Currently, there are 39,974 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 1,294 are asymptomatic, 33,866 are mild, 2,983 are moderate, 1,512 are severe, and 319 are critical.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 2,780,109 with 605 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 51,662 with 58 new fatalities. 

The DOH confirmed that it removed 39 duplicate cases, including 35 recoveries, and 110 negative infections, which are reported as recoveries. Ronald Espartinez
