The Philippines took over the top spot against Indonesia for the most number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in Southeast Asia after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 3,561 new cases, raising the nationwide tally to 119,460.

Indonesia has 118,753 total cases with 37,587 active cases.

This marks the eight consecutive day where the Philippines posted new Covid-19 cases exceeding the 3,000 mark. 

The top five areas in the country with the highest number of new infections were Metro Manila with 2,041, Laguna with 222, Cebu with 221, Cavite with 100, and Rizal with 81.

Currently, there are 50,473 active cases undergoing medical treatment or quarantine: 90.9 percent are mild, 7.8 percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are severe, and 0.5 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate posted an impressive 569 new patients winning the fight against Covid-19, elevating the country’s recovery tally to 66,837.

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 2,150 with 28 new fatalities.

As of August, the country has 75 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 24 GeneXpert laboratories that successfully tested a total of 1,546,104 persons.  RJ Espartinez
