The Department of Health (DOH) announced 5,290 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the nationwide tally to 640,984.

This record marks the seventh consecutive day where new cases reported exceeded the 4,000 mark. 

Currently, the country’s active cases stand at 66,576, a new record-high for this year. 

Among the active cases: 93.3 percent are mild, 3.7 percent are asymptomatic, 1.2 percent are severe, and 1.2 percent are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate moves to 561,530 with 439 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 12,887 with 21 new fatalities. 

The DOH also announced that four duplicate cases were removed from the nationwide tally.

“Moreover, 6 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

The DOH added that eight Covid-19 laboratories failed to submit their daily reports on time. Ronald dela Cruz
