The Philippines increased its total coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases to 58,850 with 1,392 new infections, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday.
Among the new cases, 512 are “fresh” or newly validated while 880 are reported late.
The top five areas in the country with the highest number of new cases are Metro Manila with 708, Cebu with 198, Iloilo with 86, Laguna with 64, and Cavite with 46.
Currently, there are 36,260 active Covid-19 cases undergoing treatment or quarantine: 90.6 percent are mild, 8.6 percent are asymptomatic, 0.4 percent are severe, and 0.5 percent are in critical condition.
The country’s death toll inches to 1,614 with 11 new fatalities.
Recoveries, on the other hand, jumped to 20,967 with 517 more patients winning against the respiratory illness.
Indonesia topped the Southeast Asian region for the most number of Covid-19 cases at 80,094. The Philippines followed behind trailed by Singapore with 46,878. (RJ Espartinez)
