The Philippines exceeded the 28,000 mark for its total coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections with 661 new cases added, elevating the country’s tally to 28,459, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Friday.
460 of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 277 came from the National Capital Region, 21 came from Region VII, and 162 came from other areas across the country.
201 of the new cases are late: 40 came from the National Capital Region, 103 came from Region VII, and 58 came from other areas across the country.
The DOH also reported 19,593 active COVID-19 cases undertaking medical treatment or under quarantine: 19,053 are mild, 460 are asymptomatic, 61 are severe, and 19 are in critical condition.
Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 1,130 with 14 new deaths.
In a bit of good news, recoveries jumped to 7,378 with 288 new patients winning the battles against COVID-19.
Indonesia still leads Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 43,803. Singapore followed behind with 41,615 cases trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
