The Philippines is not flattening the curve after posting 539 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, elevating the country’s total COVID-19 cases to 25,930, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Sunday.
366 of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 153 came from Metro Manila and 110 came from Region VII, while the remaining 103 cases are spread out across the country.
173 of the new cases are reported late: 142 came from Metro Manila, 5 came from Region VII, while the remaining 26 patients came from various locations in the country.
Death toll rises to 1,088 after 14 new patients surrendered to the infectious disease.
The DOH clarified that the growth in the number of fatalities in recent days was triggered by the late reporting of deaths by local government units.
In a bit of good news, recoveries jumped to 5,954 with 248 more patients winning the fight against COVID-19.
Singapore remains on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 40,604. Indonesia closely behind with 38,277 cases trailed by the Philippines.
