The Philippines reported Thursday a new all-time high 34,021 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,092,409.
The Department of Health (DOH) said that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional on January 11, but seven laboratories failed to submit their reports on time.
Currently, there are 237,387 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 7,332 are asymptomatic; 225,408 are mild; 1,468 are severe; and 298 are in critical condition.
The DOH clarified that among the new cases today, 33,456 or 98% happened from December 31, 2021 to January 13, 2022.
The National Capital Region (NCR) reported the highest cases in the recent two weeks at 16,793 or 50%; followed by Region IV-A with 7,131 or 21%; and Region III with 3,745 or 11%.
Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 2,802,286 with 4,694 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.
Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 52,736 with 82 new fatalities.
The health department confirmed that 246 duplicates were removed from the nationwide count, while 44 infections previously declared as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities after validation. Ronald Espartinez
