The Philippines reported 8,719 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, bringing the nationwide tally to 979,740.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), only one Covid-19 laboratory failed to submit its report on time.

The country’s active Covid-19 cases increased to 102,799 of which 96.4% are mild, 1.3% are asymptomatic, 0.9% are severe, and 0.7% are in critical condition.

The total number of recoveries spiked to 860,412 with 13,812 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 16,529 with 159 more fatalities.

The DOH also removed 28 duplicate cases from the nationwide tally. 

“77 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said. Ronald dela Cruz
