The Philippines reported 5,979 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Monday, may 17, pushing the nationwide tally to 1,149,925.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), five Covid-19 laboratories failed to submit their daily reports on time. 

“Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.7% of samples tested and 1.0% of positive individuals,” it said.

Currently, there are 54,235 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment and quarantine: 93.3% are mild, 2% are asymptomatic, 2% are severe, 1.4% are in critical condition, and 1.25% are moderate.

The country’s recovery rate increased to 1,076,428 with 6,602 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, stands at 19,262 with 72 new fatalities. 

The Health Department was also able to remove 17 duplicates from the nationwide count while 31 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after verification. Ronald dela Cruz
