The Philippines reported 5,462 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 1,286,217.

This is the 5th highest number of new cases in the world, behind Malaysia (6,239), Indonesia (7,725), Russia (10,407) and Iran (10,598).

According to the Department of Health (DOH), eight Covid-19 laboratories failed to submit their daily reports on time. 

Currently, there are 54,000 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment and quarantine: 92.6% are mild, 3.0% are asymptomatic, 1.8% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 1,210,027 with 7,854 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, stands at 22,190 with 126 new fatalities.

The DOH also announced that it removed 18 duplicate cases from the nationwide count.
