The Philippines reported Thursday 31,173 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,324,478.
The Department of Health (DOH) said all Covid-19 laboratories were functional on January 18, but five laboratories failed to submit their reports on time.
Among the 31,173 new infections today, 29,708 or 95% of the new cases happened from January 7 to January 20.
The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the regions in the country with the highest Covid-19 count in the recent two weeks with 8,883 or 30% of new cases; followed by Region IV-A with 6,471 or 22%; and Region III with 2,783 or 9%.
Currently, there are 275,364 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 8,424 are asymptomatic; 262,168 are mild; 1,488 are severe; and 305 are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 2,995,961 with 26,298 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.
Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 53,153 with 110 new fatalities.
The health department reported 132 duplicates and 188 cases discovered have tested negative and were removed from the nationwide count. Ronald Espartinez
