The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the Philippines rose to 307,288 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 3,073 new infections on Monday.

This broke six consecutive days of new cases below the 3,000 mark.

Areas in the country with the highest number of new infections were Metro Manila with 1,158; Cavite with 225; Laguna with 203; Rizal with 173; and Batangas with 169.

The DOH said 49,242 active Covid-19 cases were undergoing treatment or quarantine: 86.4 percent were mild, 8.7 percent were asymptomatic, 1.5 percent were severe, and 3.4 percent were in critical condition.

The country’s recovery numbers increased to 252,665, with 163 more patients winning the fight against the respiratory illness.

Deaths stood at 5,381, with 37 new fatalities.

The Philippines is on the 6th spot in the world for the most number of new Covid-19 infections. The top three countries were Russia (8,135 cases), India (4,852 cases), and Mexico (3,886 cases). RJ Espartinez
