The Philippines reported Tuesday 28,007 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,026,473.

Today’s count pushes the nationwide tally to cross the 3 million mark.

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional on January 9, but 12 laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Currently, there are 181,016 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 5,521 are asymptomatic; 170,873 are mild; 1,464 are severe; and 295 are in critical condition.

Among the 28,007 new infections, 27,604 happened within the last 14 days (December 29, 2021 to January 11, 2022).

The National Capital Region (NCR) logged the highest number of infections within the recent two weeks at 15,256 or 55%; followed by Region 4-A with 5,861 or 21%; and Region 3 with 3,064 or 11%.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 2,792,946 with 4,471 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 52,511 with 219 new fatalities. 

The health department reported 64 duplicates being removed from the nationwide tally, while 184 infections tested negative have also been removed. Ronald Espartinez
