The Philippines logged 20,019 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 2,080,984.

This marks the third consecutive day where new cases reported exceeded the 20,000 mark.

Amid the surge, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that five Covid-19 laboratories failed to submit their daily reports on time.

Today’s count brings the country’s active Covid-19 cases to 157,438: 92% are mild, 3.4% asymptomatic, 1.4% severe, and 0.7% in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 1,889,312 with 20,089 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 34,234 with 173 new fatalities. 

The health department also confirmed that 119 duplicate cases were removed from the nationwide count. Moreover, 58 infections previously declared as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after confirmation. Ronald Espartinez
