The Philippines reported Tuesday 17,677 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide count to 3,459,646.

The Department of Health (DOH) said all Covid-19 laboratories were operational since January 23, but six laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Among the new cases reported, 17,157 or 97% of the cases happened within the recent 14 days — from January 12 to 25.

Region 4-A topped the regions in the country with the highest cases in the recent two weeks at 2,629 or 15% of total cases; followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,570 or 15%; and Region 3 with 2,266 or 13%.

Currently, there are 247,451 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 7,464 are asymptomatic; 235,181 are mild;  2,996 are moderate; 1,502 are severe; and 308 are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 3,158,597 with 33,144 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 53,598 with 79 new fatalities. 

The health department confirmed that 87 duplicates were removed from the total count. Among the said number, 52 are recoveries and one fatality. Ronald Espartinez
