The Philippines coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) caseload totalled 291,789 after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Tuesday 1,635 new infections, the second lowest single-day tally recorded this month.

The top areas in the country with the most number of new Covid-19 infections are Metro Manila, the epicenter of the country’s pandemic, with 583; followed by Cavite with 102; Iloilo with 97; Rizal with 67; and Cebu with 57.

Currently, 56,097 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing medical treatment or quarantine: 86.4 percent are mild, 9.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are severe, and 3.1 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate leaped to 230,643 after the DOH confirmed 450 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 5,049 with 50 fatalities: 38 of them died in September, eight in August, three in July, and one in April.

“Moreover, 17 cases previously reported as recovered were reclassified as death (1) and active (16) cases,” the DOH said.
