The Philippines coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally increased to 432,925 after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Tuesday 1,298 new infections, with 15 Covid-19 laboratories failing to submit their daily reports on time.
Bulk of the new cases came from Ilocos Norte with 84; City of Manila with 61; Quezon province with 55; Laguna with 50; and Negros Occidental with 47.
Currently, 25,725 active Covid-19 cases are undertaking quarantine or medical treatment: 84% are mild, 7.4% are asymptomatic, while 2.9% are severe and 0.30% are moderate.
The country’s recovery rate inches to 398,782 with 135 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.
Death toll stands at 8,418 with 27 new fatalities.
“Nine cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths. In addition, there’s one case that was previously reported as death but has been validated as active case,” the DOH added.
The Philippines ranks 27th in the world for the most number of Covid-19 cases. The USA tops the global ranking with 13,920,038 cases. According to Worldometers, there are now 63,691,642 Covid-19 infections worldwide. RJ Espartinez
