The Philippines’ caseload for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has leaped to 422,915 after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Wednesday 1,202 new infections with eight Covid-19 laboratories failing to submit their daily reports on time. 

Majority of the new cases came from President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown of Davao City with 137 cases; followed by Quezon City with 68; Batangas with 59; Laguna with 54; and Cavite with 47.

Currently, 27,745 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing treatment or quarantine: 83.7 percent are mild, 8.2 percent are asymptomatic, 2.7 percent are severe, and 5.1 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate increased to 386,955 with 183 more patients winning the fight against the deadline respiratory illness. 

Death toll now stands at 8,215 with 31 new fatalities.

“Moreover, 12 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths. There’s also one case that was previously reported as death but has been validated as recovered,” the DOH added.
