The Philippines on Thursday logged 2,196 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,646,793. 

The Department of Health (DOH) said all Covid-19 laboratories were functional since February 15, but three laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Among the new cases reported, 2,078 or 95% happened within the recent 14 days from February 4 to February 17, 2022.

The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the regions with the most number of new cases at 358 or 17%; followed by Region 6 with 307 or 15%; and Region 4-A with 214 or 10%.

Currently, there are 66,588 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 1,090 are asymptomatic; 60,848 are mild; 2,913 are moderate; 1,428 are severe; and 309 are critical.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 3,524,875 with 4,409 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 55,330 with 107 new fatalities. 

The health department reported that 79 infections previously declared as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities after validation. Ronald Espartinez
