The Philippines posted 518 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) elevating its total cases to 22,992, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Tuesday.

Two hundred eighty of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 61 came from Metro Manila, 82 came from Region VII, 22 were repatriates, while the remaining 115 were spread out across the country.

Two hundred thirty eight of the new cases are late: 89 came from Metro Manila, 4 came from Region VII, 3 were repatriates, while the 142 other patients came from various municipalities nationwide.

There are 16,826 active COVID-19 cases undertaking medical treatment or in quarantine: 16,136 are mild, 624 are asymptomatic, while 47 are severe and 19 are in critical condition.

In a bit of good news, recoveries increased to 4,736 with 99 new patients winning the fight against COVID-19. 

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 1,017 with 6 new fatalities.

Singapore retains its top spot in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 38,514. Indonesia followed behind with 33,076 cases trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
