The Philippines broke the three-day streak of less than 3,000 daily coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections after the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday announced 3,281 new cases, raising the nationwide tally to 241,987.
The top areas in the country with the most number of new cases are Metro Manila with 1,420; followed by Cavite with 263; Negros Occidental with 204; Laguna with 197; and Rizal with 196.
Currently, 52,893 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing medical treatment or quarantine: 88.6 percent are mild, 8.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are severe, and 1.9 percent are in critical condition.
Recovery rate in the country rose to 185,178 with 286 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.
Death toll, on the other hand, is not at 3,916 with 26 new fatalities.
The Philippines sits on the 3rd spot in the world for the most number of new cases reported for Tuesday, September 8, behind India (6,519 cases), Russia (5,099 cases), and Mexico (3,260 cases). RJ Espartinez
