The Department of Health (DOH) announced 2,529 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, elevating the Philippines’ tally to 234,570. 

The top areas in the country with the most number of new cases are Metro Manila with 1,171; followed by Negros Occidental with 197; Laguna with 145; Cavite with 117; and Bulacan with 70.

Currently, there are 69,112 active Covid-19 cases undergoing treatment or quarantine: 90.4% are mild, 7.2% are asymptomatic, 1% is severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate rose to 161,668 after the DOH posted 1,136 more patients winning the fight against Covid-19.

Death toll is now at 3,790 with 53 new fatalities. 

The Philippines ranks 6th in the world for the most number of new Covid-19 infections reported on Saturday. India tops the world with 14,100 new cases; followed by Mexico with 6,196; Russia with 5,205; Indonesia with 3,128; and Ukraine with 2,836. RJ Espartinez
