The Philippines received its first shipment of the single-dose vaccine by American drug firm Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and more AstraZeneca shots on Friday.

The 1,606,600 doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 at 4 p.m.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr. earlier said that the J&J shots, which were from the Covax facility, would be deployed to far-flung regions and provinces in Visayas and Mindanao.

Earlier on Friday, the country received its first batch of AstraZeneca doses purchased by the private sector and local government units.

The 1,150,800 doses were procured through a tripartite agreement involving the national government, AstraZeneca and the private sector.

The latest vaccine arrivals brought the country’s total vaccine shots to 24,788,110.
