The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally leaped to 269,407 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed on Tuesday 3,544 new infections.

The country currently sits on the 2nd spot in the world for the most number of new Covid-19 cases reported Tuesday, trailing behind Russia’s 5,529.

This marks the 8th straight day where new cases reported have exceeded the 3,000 mark. 

The top areas in the country with the most number of new Covid-19 infections are Metro Manila with 690; followed by Cavite with 305; Rizal with 201; Negros Occidental with 173; and Bulacan with 98.

Currently, 57,392 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing medical treatment or quarantine: 87.9 percent are mild, 8 percent are asymptomatic, 1.2 percent are severe, and 2.9 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate jumped to 207,352 with 395 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 4,663 with 34 new fatalities. 

The DOH added that 538 cases previously reported as recovered were reclassified after final validation.  Two were fatalities and 536 are now active cases. RJ Espartinez
