The Philippines posted a new record high 4,963 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, raising the nationwide tally to 98,232, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed Saturday.

The top areas in the country with the highest number of Covid-19 infections are Metro Manila with 2,087, Region 4A with 959 and Region 7 with 223 or 6%.

Currently, there are 30,928 active Covid-19 cases in the whole country.

The country’s recovery rate increased to 65,265 after the DOH confirmed 93 more patients winning the fight against the respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, spiked to 2,039 with 17 new fatalities.

Among the new deaths posted, 13 (76%) were from July while 4 (24%) were from June. The deceased patients came from Metro Manila (5 or 29%), Region 4A (5 or 29%), Region 7 (4 or 24%), Region 1 (2 or 12%), and Region 9 (1 or 6%).

Meanwhile, eighty-five (85) duplicates have been removed from the total tally, including 6 recovered cases and 1 case.
The health department said the new numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation. (RJ Espartinez)
