The Philippines posted a new daily record in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, 2,434, bringing the country’s tally to 44,254, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Sunday.
The DOH said 1,147 of the new cases were “fresh” or newly validated. It said 440 came from Metro Manila, 364 came from Region VII, seven were repatriates, while the remaining 336 were recorded in various parts of the country.
The health department also said 1,287 of the new cases were reported late. Of this figure, 629 came from Metro Manila, 238 came from Region VII, and 420 other patients came from other locations.
There were 29,087 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or placed under quarantine. Of the total, 27,429 were mild, 1,486 were asymptomatic, 144 were severe and 28 were in critical condition.
The country’s death tally rose to 1,297, with seven new patients succumbing to the respiratory illness.
Recoveries jumped to 11,942 with 489 new patients winning the fight against Covid-19.
“As the country continues to ease community quarantine measures, the rise in the number of cases today may be attributed to the increased contact among the population,” the DOH said.
