The Philippines posted 2,099 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Monday, its second straight day of more than 2,000 new infections, bringing the country’s tally to 46,333, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

According to the DOH, 1,258 of the new cases were “fresh” or newly validated.

The DOH said 601 came from Metro Manila, 280 from Region VII, 48 were repatriates, and 329 came from various areas across the country.

It said 841 of the new cases were reported late, of which 397 came from Metro Manila, 186 from Region VII, 46 were repatriates, and the remaining 212 were from other parts of the country.

Deaths rose to 1,303, after six new patients succumbed to the respiratory illness.

The DOH also said 243 more patients won the battle against Covid-19, increasing the total number of recoveries to 12,185.

Indonesia topped Southeast Asia with the most number of Covid-19 cases at 64,958. The Philippines was on second spot, followed by Singapore with 44,983 cases. RJ Espartinez
