590 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections were reported in the Philippines, bringing the country’s total number to 17,224, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Saturday.

252 of the new cases were considered “fresh” while the remaining 338 patients were “late cases,” which were based on test results given to patients four days ago or more.

In a bit of good news, recoveries jumped to 3,808 with 88 new patients surviving the COVID-19 threat while fatalities inches to 950 with 8 more patients dying from the disease.

Currently, 11,972 are active cases: 714 cases or 6 percent are asymptomatic, 11,184 or 93.4 percent are mild, 56 or 0.5 percent are severe, and 18 patients or 0.2 percent are in critical condition.

Singapore remains on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 34,366. Indonesia followed behind with 25,773 trailed by the Philippines.  (RJ Espartinez)
