The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally soared to 232,072 after the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday confirmed 3,714 new infections. 

The top areas with the most number of new Covid-19 infections are Metro Manila with 1,797; followed by Negros Occidental with 390; Batangas with 248; Laguna with 247; and Cavite with 150.

Currently, there are 67,786 active Covid-19 cases undergoing treatment or quarantine: 90.7 percent are mild, 6.9 percent are asymptomatic, 0.9 percent are severe, and 1.4 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate increased to 160,549 after the DOH posted 1,088 more patients winning the fight against Covid-19.

Death toll is now at 3,737 with 49 new fatalities.

The Philippines ranks 4th in the world for the most number of new Covid-19 cases, trailing India (7,007 cases), Mexico (5,937 cases), and Russia (5,110 cases). RJ Espartinez
