The Philippines posted 359 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) — 176 “fresh” or newly validated and 183 reported late — increasing the total number of infections to 18,997, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Tuesday.
33 of the fresh cases came from Metro Manila, 89 came from Region VII, while the remaining 54 cases came from across the country.
39 of the late cases came from Metro Manila, 25 were repatriates, 8 came from Region VII, and the other 111 remaining late cases came from various areas nationwide.
In a bit of good news, recoveries exceeded the 4,000 mark after 94 more patients survived the battle against COVID-19, bringing the total number of survivors to 4,063.
The DOH’s daily bulletin also confirmed 6 patients died from the respiratory disease, climbing the country’s total number of COVID-19 fatalities to 966.
Currently, 13,699 active cases are undergoing treatment or in quarantine: 12,826 are mild, 795 are asymptomatic, 59 are severe, while 19 are in critical condition.
Singapore retains its top spot in Southeast Asia for the most number of COVID-19 cases at 35,836. Indonesia on its tail with 27,549 followed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
