The Philippines logged a total of 3,051 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections from June 13 to June 19, 2022, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The recent tally was 82% higher than the infections reported from the previous week.

From June 13 to 19, the daily case average was 436, which was almost double of the 240 infections posted from June 6 to 12.

On Monday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said more Covid-19 infections were expected to be seen in the coming weeks with the country experiencing another “peak” of Covid-19 transmission.

The National Capital Region (NCR) logged a 90% increase in Covid-19 cases. Moreover, the health department is also observing a surge in new cases in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Northern Mindanao.

The DOH’s also reported 554 severe and critical Covid-19 infections who are currently undergoing medical treatment in hospitals.

The country also added six more verified fatalities last week, but none of them happened from June 6 to 19.

Among the six deaths: one occurred in January 2022, one in September 2021, one in June 2021, one in April 2021, and two in March 2021.
