The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally spiked to 139,538 after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Tuesday 2,987 new infections.

The top five areas in the country with the most number of new Covid-19 cases for the day are: Metro Manila at 1,510; followed by Cavite with 398 new infections; Laguna with 144; Iloilo with 135; and Cebu with 119.

Among the new reported Covid-19 cases by the DOH, 1,374 got infected between July 29 and August 11; 1,591 got infected from July 1 to 28; while the rest fell ill from March to June.

Currently, there are 68,794 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or quarantine, still the highest in Southeast Asia followed by Indonesia with 39,242 active Covid-19 cases.

The country’s recovery rate spiked to 68,432 after the DOH reported 280 more patients winning the fight against the disease. 

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 2,312 with 19 new fatalities. RJ Espartinez
