The Philippines breached the 200,000 mark on coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) cases as the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed Wednesday 5,277 new cases bringing the country’s total case load to 202,361 cases.

Worldwide, the Philippines has the second most number of new cases reported on Wednesday next only to India’s 7,342 new cases.

The submissions came from 95 out of  the 109 Covid-19 laboratories across the country.

The National Capital Region reported the most number of new infection with 3,157 followed by Laguna (403), Negros Occidental (304), Rizal (237) and Cavite (228).

The DOH said 65,764 are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

The Health Department also confirmed 1,131 new recoveries bringing the country’s total number of Covid-19 survivors to 133,460.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 related deaths rose to 3,137 after the DOH confirmed 99 new deaths.

The DOH said the reported deaths happened in May (1 death) June (3 deaths) and July (18 deaths).

The Philippines remains the country with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Southeast Asia followed by Indonesia with 160,165 and Singapore with 56,495.  Rommel F. Lopez
