The Philippines posted Saturday a new record-high 39,004 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,168,379.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional since January 13, but eight laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Currently, there are 280,813 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 8,928 are asymptomatic, 267,185 are mild, 2,925 are moderate, 1,472 are severe, and 303 are in critical condition.

The DOH clarified that among the 39,004 new infections, 38,271 or 98% happened from January 2 to 15, 2022.

The National Capital Region (NCR) topped the regions in the country for the most number of infections in the recent two weeks at 18,142 or 47%; followed by Region 4-A with 9,172 or 24%; and Region 3 with 3,325 or 9%.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate climbed to 2,834,708 with 23,613 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, increased to 52,858 with 43 new fatalities. 

The health department also confirmed that it removed 134 duplicates from the total count. Ronald Espartinez
