The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally rose to 187,249 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed 4,933 new infections on Aug. 22, Saturday. 

The top five areas in the country with the highest number of new cases are Quezon City with 555; Cavite with 461; Laguna with 288; City of Manila with 282; and City of Malabon with 220.

The DOH said there were 69,362 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or quarantine. Of the total, 91.5 percent were mild, 6.6 percent were asymptomatic, 0.8 percent were severe, and 1.1 percent were in critical condition. 

The country’s recovery rate climbed to 114,921 after the DOH said 436 more patients overcame Covid-19. 

The death toll, on the other hand, reached 2,966, with 26 new fatalities. 

The Philippines is still on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of Covid-19 cases and active cases, followed by Indonesia with 151,498 total cases and 39,706 active cases. Isabel S. Macaraeg
