The Philippines posted 457 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, raising the country’s total cases to 27,238, the Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday.
342 of the new cases are “fresh” or newly validated: 144 came from Metro Manila, 101 came from Region VII, while the remaining 97 were spread out across the country.
115 of the new cases reported late: 29 came from Metro Manila, 59 came from Region VII, while the 27 other patients came from various areas nationwide.
In a bit of good news, recoveries continue to outpace deaths with 268 more patients winning the battle against COVID-19, bringing the total number to 6,820.
5 new fatalities were reported raising the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 1,108.
Indonesia has taken over the lead over Singapore for the most number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia at 41,413. Singapore is closely behind with 41,216 trailed by the Philippines. (RJ Espartinez)
