The Philippines logged 4,478 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, Wednesday, pushing the nationwide tally to 1,566,667.

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported four Covid-19 laboratories failing to submit their daily reports on time.

The low case report is attributed to the late extraction at 9 p.m. on Tuesday instead of the 1 p.m. schedule.

“Because of that, there were some cases reported yesterday that should have been included in the case counts today,” the DOH said.

The new cases brought the country’s active cases to 54,552.

This brings the country’s active infections to 54,552: 93.4% are mild, 1.2% are asymptomatic, 2.3% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 1,484,714 with 6,149 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness.

Death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 27,401 with 84 new fatalities.

The health agency also confirmed that 11 duplicate cases were removed from the nationwide count.

“Moreover, 53 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said. Ronald Espartinez
