The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Philippine tally skyrocketed to 129,913 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed on Sunday 3,109 new infections, placing the country on top in Southeast Asia for the most number of total and active cases.

The top five areas in the country with the most number of new Covid-19 cases are Metro Manila with 1,700; Laguna with 169; Cebu with 114; Rizal with 98; and Cavite with 93.

Among the new reported cases, 2,055 got the infection between July 27 and August 9; 772 between July to 26; 59 contracted the disease in June; 118 in May, 58 in April, and 47 in March.

Currently, there are 59,970 active Covid-19 cases undergoing medical treatment or quarantine: 91.2 percent are mild, 7.5 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are severe, and 0.6 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate continues to also rise with an impressive 654 new patients winning the fight against Covid-19, raising the nationwide tally to 67,673.

Death toll due to Covid-19, on the other hand, increased to 2,270 with 61 new fatalities.  RJ Espartinez
