The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) caseload is now at 296,755 after the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed on Thursday 2,180 new infections.

This marks the third consecutive day where new Covid-19 infections reported are less than 3,000. 

The top areas in the country with the most number of new infections are Metro Manila with 802; followed by Laguna with 292; Batangas with 152; Cavite with 144; and Negros Occidental with 87.

Currently, 59,700 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing treatment or quarantine: 86.6 percent are mild, 9.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.3 percent are severe, and 2.9 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate leaped to 231,928 after the DOH announced 580 more patients winning the fight against the said respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, inches to 5,127 with 36 new fatalities. According to the DOH, 23 of those patients expired in September while the rest died between April and August.

“Moreover, 18 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths (17) and an active (1) case,” the DOH added.
