The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tally rose to 344,713 after the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Tuesday 1,990 new infections.

The DOH said 17 Covid-19 laboratories failed to submit their data on time, resulting in a low number of total cases reported.

Bulk of the new infections came from the nation’s pandemic center, Metro Manila, at 580; followed by Cavite with 114; Rizal with 105; Laguna with 100; and Misamis Oriental with 94.

Currently, 44,958 active Covid-19 cases are undergoing treatment or quarantine: 84.2 percent are mild, 10.6 percent are asymptomatic, 1.7 percent are severe, and 3.4 percent are in critical condition.

The country’s recovery rate spiked to 293,383 with 327 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory disease.

Death toll stands at 6,372 with 40 new fatalities.

“Moreover, 11 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths,” the DOH added.

The Philippines sits on the 18th spot in the world for the most number Covid-19 cases followed by neighbor Indonesia with 340,622 total cases. RJ Espartinez
