The Philippines reported Friday 18,638 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,511,491. 

The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that all Covid-19 laboratories were functional since January 26, but four laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. 

Among the new infections reported, 18,281 or 98% of total cases happened within the recent 14 days from January 15 to January 28.

Region 4-A topped the regions with the most cases in the recent two weeks at 2,379 or 13% of new cases; followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,211 or 12%; and Region 6 with 1,969 or 11%.

Currently, there are 231,658 active Covid-19 infections undergoing medical treatment: 7,055 are asymptomatic, 219,811 are mild, 2,971 are moderate, 1,509 are severe, and 312 are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate increased to 3,226,032 with 13,106 more patients winning the fight against the deadly respiratory illness. 

Death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 53,801 with 68 new fatalities. 

The DOH said 594 duplicates were removed from the nationwide count. Among the said number, 242 are recoveries and 3 deaths. Ronald Espartinez
