The Philippines logged 1,657 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections bringing the nationwide total to 82,040, the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Monday.

This marks the 13th consecutive day where new Covid-19 cases crossed the 1,300 mark.

The top five areas in the country with the highest number of new Covid-19 infections were Metro Manila with 1,017, Laguna with 89, Cavite with 38, Cebu with 31, and Rizal with 31.

Currently, there are 53,649 Covid-19 active cases undergoing medical treatment or quarantine: 90 percent are mild, 9.1 percent are asymptomatic, 0.5 percent are severe, and 0.4 percent are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate posted an impressive 359 new patients winning the fight against the disease, raising the nationwide tally to 26,446. 

Death toll, on the other hand, posted 16 new fatalities, increasing the tally to 1,945.

The Philippine still leads Southeast Asia with the highest number of active cases with 53,649, followed by Indonesia with 37,292 and Singapore with 5,290.  (RJ Espartinez)
